The Chicago Bulls have announced that they have fired Tom Thibodeau after five years as coach of the franchise.
The Bulls were eliminated in the Eastern Conference semi-finals this season, but speculation has long suggested that Thibodeau has been at odds with the front office.
"Days like today are difficult, but necessary for us to achieve our goals and fulfil our commitments to our fans," chairman Jerry Reinsdorf noted in a press release.
"I appreciate the contributions that Tom Thibodeau made to the Bulls organisation. I have always respected his love of the game and wish him well in the future."
Thibodeau compiled an overall record of 255-139 in his five years in the position, with his team advancing to the playoffs in each season under his stewardship.
