The Texas Legends have announced that PJ Hairston has joined the Dallas Mavericks' development league side.
The shooting guard started the season in college at North Carolina, but was suspended from the basketball program following arrests for driving incidents and possession of marijuana, before the NCAA ruled him ineligible.
Legends owner and Dallas Mavericks president of basketball operation Donnie Nelson said in a statement: "We are excited to add a player like PJ Hairston. PJ has been on the NBA radar for a number of years now, and the opportunity for him to develop and showcase his ability with the Legends is unique.
"We are surrounding PJ with all of the necessary tools to prepare himself for the NBA Draft. I am excited to see him in a Legends uniform this weekend."
It is the first time that a player has signed with a D-League side in the same season as playing in college.
