The Detroit Pistons have confirmed the decision to waive Danny Granger ahead of the new season.

Granger was acquired in the summer trade which brought Marcus Morris to the Pistons, but the 32-year-old has been unable to take part in training camp or pre-season due to a foot injury.

He was also unable to make an appearance for the Miami Heat or the Phoenix Suns last season, and Detroit have decided against taking a risk on his fitness while cutting their roster down to 15 players.

Granger was named Most Improved Player and earned a spot in the All-Star game while averaging 25.8 points per game with the Indiana Pacers in the 2008-09 season, but injury troubles have restricted him to just 76 regular-season games in the last three campaigns.

The Pistons start the season against the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday night.
