The Golden State Warriors are two more wins away from the best ever start to an NBA season after they put away the Chicago Bulls 106-94 in one of 11 Friday night games.

It was a first defeat in five for the Bulls as Stephen Curry, with 27 points, led the Warriors to their 14th straight success to start the season.

Chicago were the last team to beat Golden State at Oracle Arena during the regular season, but that was 26 home games ago in January.

The second-longest winning streak in the league belonged to the San Antonio Spurs, but their run came to an end at six games last night as the New Orleans Pelicans caused an upset at Smoothie King Center.

The Pelicans had lost 11 of their first 12 games, but star-man Anthony Davis returned from injury and posted 20 points and 18 rebounds as the Spurs dropped to 9-3.

The Dallas Mavericks, meanwhile, have won six games in a row following a 102-93 success over the Utah Jazz at American Airlines Center.

Deron Williams had season-highs in points (23), rebounds (six) and assists (eight) as Dallas held on after their 20-point second-half lead was cut as low as five in the closing minutes.

In another Western Conference affair, it was the Memphis Grizzlies who overcame the Houston Rockets 96-84 at FedExForum for their fourth consecutive success.

Mike Conley top-scored with 26 points, while center Marc Gasol had his first-ever triple-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists.

After losing an epic to the Warriors on Thursday, the Los Angeles Clippers made it back-to-back defeats by going down 102-91 at the Portland Trail Blazers.

It was the Blazers' first win in eight as Damian Lillard finished with 27 points and made three late three-pointers to seal the victory.

The New York Knicks' solid start to the season continued as they won away at the Oklahoma City Thunder 93-90.

At one point the Knicks led by as many as 16 in the fourth quarter before OKC rallied, but the visitors held on to improve to 7-6. Carmelo Anthony had 25 points for New York, while Russell Westbrook put up 34 in defeat for the Thunder.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are yet to win at home in six attempts following their 96-86 defeat to the Detroit Pistons.

The Wolves held a six-point lead at half time, but Detroit dug in after the interval as Andre Drummond (21 points, 11 rebounds) stood out at Target Center.

Al Jefferson impressed with 26 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks as the Charlotte Hornets inflicted yet another defeat on the winless Philadelphia 76ers.

Twenty-five points was the margin of victory as Philly lost for the 13th consecutive game this season and 23rd overall including the end to last term. They are five more losses away from tying the NBA's worst-ever start.

The Toronto Raptors won for the first time in four games by inflicting a 10th loss of the season on the Los Angeles Lakers at Staples Center.

Kyle Lowry top-scored with 25 points, but Toronto did lose Jonas Valanciunas to a broken bone in his left hand that is likely to see the center miss a chunk of time.

Emmanuel Mudiay had the highest-scoring night of his young career with 26 points for the Denver Nuggets, but it was not enough for victory as the Phoenix Suns fought back in the second half to win 114-107 at Pepsi Center.

Opposing guard Brandon Knight shone with 38 points, 24 of which were in the third and fourth quarters, and pulled down 11 rebounds as Phoenix moved to 7-5.

The Boston Celtics also have a 7-5 record following their comfortable 120-95 win over the struggling Brooklyn Nets.

Avery Bradley, with 21 points, again flourished off the bench for the home side as they used a 43-point second quarter to put the game out of the Nets' reach.
