The Memphis Grizzlies have opted to waive forward Michael Beasley after he signed a non-guaranteed contract with the franchise last month.
The 25-year-old was the number two overall pick in the 2008 Draft and has career averages of 13.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 24.9 minutes in 409 NBA games, but he was unable to secure a long-term deal in the NBA this off-season.
Beasley has spent time at the Minnesota Timberwolves, Phoenix Suns and the Miami Heat, although his form last season wasn't enough to convince the Heat to sign him to an extension.
Having now left the Grizzlies, Beasley has signed a one-year deal with the Shanghai Sharks of the China Basketball Association, according to Yahoo! Sports.
The Sharks are owned by former Houston Rockets star Yao Ming with Beasley now expected to be added to their roster for the season.
