NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has been hospitalised after breaking his hip in a fall, the 76-year-old's business partner Deborah Morales has announced.

Abdul-Jabbar was attending a concert when the incident occurred on Saturday, and Morales confirmed that the six-time NBA MVP would undergo an operation.

Writing on Abdul-Jabbar's X account, Morales said: "Last night while attending a concert, Kareem had an accidental fall and broke his hip. He will have surgery today.

"We are all deeply appreciative of all the support for Kareem, especially from the Los Angeles Fire Department who assisted Kareem on site and the amazing medical team and doctors at UCLA Hospital who are taking great care of Kareem now."

Abdul-Jabbar enjoyed an illustrious 20-year career in the NBA with the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers, winning six NBA Championships and earning a joint-record 19 All-Star nominations.

The 76-year-old sat at the top of the NBA all-time scoring charts for 39 years with an astonishing 38,387 points, before LeBron James broke the record in February of this year.

Abdul-Jabbar was previously diagnosed with leukaemia in 2009 and underwent quadruple coronary bypass surgery six years later after being diagnosed with cardiovascular disease. body check tags ::
