Scott Skiles has reportedly emerged as a candidate to become the new head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans.
The Pelicans are still searching for a coach to replace Monty Williams, who was fired after the Pelicans were beaten in the first round of the playoffs by the Golden State Warriors.
Warriors assistant Alvin Gentry and ESPN analyst Jeff van Gundy were believed to be the frontrunners for the job after holding talks with New Orleans officials.
However, ESPN claims that Skiles is being considered for the role despite reports suggesting that he was close to joining the Orlando Magic.
A move for Skiles from either the Pelicans or Magic could hinge on whether Tom Thibodeau remains with the Chicago Bulls, who are reviewing his position after their loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference semi-finals.
