New York Knicks small forward J.R. Smith has said that his side's attacking changes were the difference as they overcame the Golden State Warriors with a 89-84 victory on Sunday.

The Knicks had found it hard to get at their opponents with jump shots, which saw them change to a more offensive approach that seemed to make the difference come the second quarter.

"We got stops and started pushing the ball," Smith told reporters after the encounter.

"Once we started attacking, as opposed to settling for jump shots, it really worked for us and I think we really need to stick with that.

"When our jumpers are falling, it is fine to take them, but when they are not, you have to figure out some way to get to the basket."

The win sees the New York side sitting in third position in the Atlantic Division, with a record of 31-43 for the season.
