Kobe Bryant is to meet officials from Turkish club Besiktas, according to Reuters.
An NBA lockout between the players' union and team owners has been in place since July 1, but negotiations are to resume on Monday.
However, Besiktas' head of basketball operations, Seref Yalcin, told reporters in Turkey that Los Angeles Lakers guard Bryant could be on his way to the club.
"At the moment there's a 50% chance that Kobe may come to Turkey," said Yalcin.
"Everything will be clearer after the meeting on the 30th [July]."
Funding for Bryant's proposed move has been an issue for Besiktas due to their basketball funds being affected by the recent match-fixing scandal in Turkish football, but Yalcin has claimed that two oil companies and Turkish Airlines could pick up the bill for Bryant's wages, expected to exceed $500,000 (£300,500) per month.
