Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant admits that he is hoping to play against the Los Angeles Lakers despite spraining his ankle.

Kevin Durant sustained an ankle sprain during the Oklahoma City Thunder's 114-109 defeat to the Golden State Warriors last night.

The reigning league MVP scored 30 points in the first half against the Western Conference leaders, but tripped over Marreesse Speights just before the interval, forcing him out for the rest of the game.

The forward told ESPN: "I was a little nervous, but I knew when I got up and started walking it felt good. So I just wanted to make sure with the X-rays everything was good."

"I'm going to just take it a day at a time. [Friday] morning we'll see how it reacts and go from there. I hope [to play against the Los Angeles Lakers this evening]. That's the plan. But we'll see.

"They had to convince me not to play. It was the foot I had surgery. I wanted to play, I wanted to go back out there, but they just wanted to be cautious. Just a sprained ankle. But when you sprain an ankle with the injury I had, it puts more pressure on that side of the foot."

Durant has averaged 22.4 points per game in his nine appearances since returning from a broken foot, which forced him to miss the start of the campaign.
