Team GB lightweight boxer Joe Cordina has missed out on a bronze medal at the 2015 World Championships after losing to Brazil's Robson Donato Conceicao in the quarter-finals on Saturday.
Cordina caught his Brazilian opponent with some powerful strikes in the first round, while his footwork made it difficult for the second seed to land clear shots of his own.
Two of the three judges scored the first 10-9 Cordina, but there was also a 10-9 for Conceicao. All three judges saw the second the way of the 26-year-old Brazilian, despite both landing clean shots in what was a high-quality bout.
A very close fight continued to flow in the third and final round and although it looked as if Cordina had done the better work, it was Conceicao that came through victorious on points.
Both fighters showed their grace and respect when the decision was announced and Conceicao will now fight Albert Selimov in the semi-finals on Monday.
