Team England's Qais Ashfaq has revealed that he was pleased to put his first win on the board at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
The bantamweight overcame Neo Thamahane on points to book a quarter-final spot against Scotland's Joe Ham, with that bout due to take place on Wednesday.
"Yeah I boxed alright. The first one is always the hardest. It is important to get the nerves out of the way and now I am ready to push on and win the quarters," he told Sports Mole.
Ashfaq also said that he is confident of remaining focused and praised the strength of the bantamweight category.
"The atmosphere doesn't bother me to be honest. I just go in there and do my job," he added.
"I think this category is probably the most competitive, but I know for a fact on my day that I can go on and win the gold."
Ashfaq received a bye into the second round.
