Team England Heavyweight boxer Warren Baister reveals his delight after advancing into the quarter-finals of the Commonwealth Games.

Team England boxer Warren Baister has revealed his delight after advancing into the quarter-finals of the Commonwealth Games.

The Heavyweight booked his spot in the last eight of the competition on Sunday evening after overcoming Northern Irishman Steven Ward.

"It was a great first win. I knocked the rust off and I am just happy to get that out of the way. Now I can focus on the rest of the competition," he told Sports Mole.

"It always is (frustrating to wait for the first fight), watching everyone get their first fight in and it is hard to watch. Ask any boxer and they will say it is the worst part of it, waiting to fight.

"This is the biggest crowd I have ever boxed in front of and coming out I had a little bit too much adrenalin so to speak and it took me a while to get my head together. The second round I started to pick it up and the third round I was fine."

Baister suffered a cut to his eye in the bout, but has claimed that he was pleased that he was tested in his first match of the competition.

"It is good to have a hard fight, but a hard fight without any injuries. It is not ideal getting a cut," he added.

Baister will fight Samir El Mais in the quarter-finals on July 30.
