Kanat Abutalipov of Kazakhstan has recorded a 15-7 win over Syria's Wessam Slamana in the opening round of the Olympic bantamweight class.
It was the Kazakh who started better, but found himself on the receiving end of the best shot of the first round.
Abutalipov was comfortably the better fighter but, once again, Slamana found his defence wanting and zeroed in with a big right hand.
Slamana had to go for it in the final stanza but the Kazakh was largely untroubled as he booked his place in the second round.
