Sports Mole

Good evening and welcome to Sports Mole's live text commentary of the interim WBA World super bantamweight title clash between Scott Quigg and Rendall Munroe.

An appetising prospect awaits us at the Velodrome in Manchester, as the British counterparts, ranked number one and two domestically, go head to head for the chance to increase their standing on the world stage.

Quigg, who is the British champion, comes into the contest with an unblemished 24-0 record, which includes 17 knockouts.

However, the Bury-born fighter is stepping up in terms of his opponent tonight, after defeating Jamie Arthur and Jason Booth in his previous two outings.

Munroe who is ranked number one, has recovered well from his unsuccessful tilt for the WBC title against Toshiaki Nishioka in Tokyo.

The boxing binman from Leicester has won his last three fights and will be hoping to make it four and re-announce himself on the world stage.

With the domestic super bantamweight division hotting up, bouts against Carl Frampton and Kid Galahad could await the winner.

Meanwhile, the likes of Cuban sensation Guillermo Rigondeaux, who holds the full WBA World title, lie in wait.

Chief support for the main event pits the recent challenger to Saul Alvarez's WBC light middleweight title, Ryan Rhodes, against Sergey Rabchenko for the EBU-EU crown.

22.40Thanks for joining Sports Mole for the live text commentary of this bout. Join us again next time!

Re-capA sense of frustration looms, but hey - we can now start looking forward to Quigg vs. Munroe II!

Re-capWell, that's all from the Velodrome, Manchester tonight. Sergey Rabchenko has improved his prospects by stopping Ryan Rhodes in the seventh round. Scott Quigg and Rendall Munroe will look to do it all agains after the bout was stopped after an accidental clash of heads opened up a cut over Munroe's eye.

22.36Hatton: "It's got be a rematch. Looking at Rendall's cut - it looks a bad 'un. It's an immediate rematch for me"

22.35Munroe: "I'm frustrated I didn't get to take the belt home to my dad for father's day tomorrow"

22.34"Quigg: We both come in to throw and the heads clashed. That's boxing, that's how it goes"

22.31There is a sense of anti-climax with this outcome. It was shaping up very nicely indeed and the fans have been left frustrated.

22.30It was a very nasty cut, right over the right eye of Munroe, and there was no way that the fight could continue.

22.29Replays show that the clash was accidental. Both men came in throwing gloves and it was Munroe who came off the worse for wear

22.28So the fight is a technical draw - effectively a no contest - and it looks like we will be doing it all again.

OVER!... and it is. Munroe looks furious, perhaps with the situation rather than with Quigg, but all that training and build-up has been for nothing

Round 3A clash of heads has opened up a cut over Munroe's right eye. It looks bad, and is pouring blood. If the doctor rules that it is obscuring vision then this is over...

End of Round 2An even contest it seems. Quigg offered more in that round, but Munroe walked through every shot.

Round 2Munroe keeps coming forward, but Quigg is on his toes

Round 2Quigg operating with a bit more purpose in this round, although Munroe is still letting his fists go with regularity

End of Round 1Quigg landed a decent right hand at the end of the round, which served as a little reminder of his speed, but the first round is Munroe's...

Round 1Munroe is putting the early pressure on Quigg. He has settled the better of the two fighters

Round 1DING! DING! We're underway at the Velodrome in Manchester. Scott Quigg vs. Rendall Munrow for the interim WBA World super bantamweight title!

22.14Quigg is the bookmakers' favourite, but that counts for nothing. Munroe has nothing to prove on the domestic scene, while Quigg still has some question marks having been put down in his two previous contests

22.12Quigg makes his entrance with the Smith brothers and Anthony Crolla in tow

22.10Plenty of support, as you would expect, for Quigg in the arena.

22.10Munroe - the boxing binman - is the first to make his entrance to the ring, clad in a beanie hat and shades. Cool guy!

22.04More down-key preparations from Munroe, who is pacing his dressing room.

22.03Quigg is sparring with Stephen Smith in the dressing room! Insane! Although I imagine that Smith will not be trying to hurt his stable-mate, lest he suffer the wrath of trainer Joe Gallagher!

21.58Quigg is a rising star of British boxing, while the boxing binman has already fought for world honours. It is hard not to like the man from Leicester, but he will have to be on his game to beat Quigg. Barry McGuigan is watching from ringside with his protege Carl Frampton

21.54We can start looking forward to our main event now - Scott Quigg vs. Rendall Munroe. Both fighters are confident - it has all the makings of a terrific fight!

AftermathRhodes: "I felt comfortable in there, I was moving well. I just got caught with a very good body shot. I will carry on..."

AftermathRhodes: "It doesn't matter how many sit ups you do, if you get caught down there it's over"

AftermathRabchenko had started to look the more domineering in the last round and a half, but Rhodes was certainly not out of the fight.

OVER!You will not get up from a body shot that lands right on target. Rabchenko looks to have taken a leaf out of his trainer's book with that one! Rhodes was left breathless

OVER!The referee calls the fight off after Rhodes takes a knee. Rhodes had landed a decent shot on Rabchenko, but the Belorussian returned the favour with a heavy body shot!

Round 7Rhodes down! He takes a knee, suffering from a body shot!

Round 7Rhodes' right eye is starting to swell a bit.

Round 7Sky Sports have Rabchenko two rounds up. I would have it level, but there have been a couple of rounds that could have gone either way. We're midway through the contest now

End of Round 6Round six to Rabchenko I feel.

Round 6Rabchenko has yet to hit Rhodes with a blow that has troubled him really. Rhodes has certainly displayed his punch-power!

Round 6Rhodes pushes Rabchenko back with a nice uppercut with his back to the ropes.

End of Round 5The last two rounds have been quite difficult to score, with both men showing signs of being on top. The pressure is coming mainly from Rabchenko, with Rhodes seemingly happy to work off the back foot.

Round 5Nice two-punch combo from Rabchenko, and Rhodes replies with a nice shot of his own. They seem to be feeling each other out a bit more in this round...

Round 5Stats show that Rhodes has been far more accurate with less punches thrown.

End of Round 4Rabchenko was the busier of the two men in the round and I think he has evened up the scorecards with that round. 2-2

Round 4Rhodes looks comfortable in his defence here. His movement is proving tricky for Rabchenko to pin him down, even when he has him against the ropes.

Round 4Well, after that punch Rabchenko will certainly exercise more caution coming forward. Rhodes has the power to hurt him, and that shot landed flush on his chin.

End of Round 3Rabchenko came on strong at the end of the round, but did not penetrate Rhodes' defence. The Sheffield man was constantly on the move. Round 3 to Rhodes for me...

Round 3Rabchenko regains his composure and survives that scare. Rhodes has shown exactly what he can do with the explosive burst!

Round 3RABCHENKO WOBBLED! Rhodes lands a heavy right hand, measured to perfection!

End of Round 2Good round for Rhodes as he takes it with some nice boxing. He was elusive and landed some decent shots on Rabchenko.

Round 2Rhodes catches the Belorussian with a nice shot, he's starting to warm to this contest after a sluggish round from the Sheffield man.

End of Round 1Definitely Rabchenko's round... unless the Nevada judges are ringside here in Manchester... let's hope not!

Round 1Rabchenko has started well and Rhodes looks to have his work cut out here!

Round 1Rabchenko catches Rhodes with a right uppercut. Decent shot!

Round 1DING! DING! DING! Round 1 is underway!

21.17Rabchenko is being trained by Ricky Hatton, who promotes both men, which has caused some controversy.

21.15It should be a great fight, but first, we have another intriguing contest between rising star Sergey Rabchenko and domestic veteran Ryan Rhodes

21.14Hello and welcome to live text commentary of the bill from the Velodrome in Manchester, headlined by Scott Quigg and Rendall Munroe
