Gary Neville has teased Rio Ferdinand about the retired footballer's move into boxing.
The former Manchester United defender, who played alongside Neville for nine seasons at Old Trafford, announced on Tuesday that he is hoping to turn professional in the ring.
The 38-year-old has teamed up with Betfair to undertake the 'Defender to Contender' challenge, which is reportedly expected to be filmed for a TV documentary series.
After the news was announced, Neville contacted Ferdinand on Twitter, joking that the former footballer will need his ex-defensive partner Nemanja Vidic to help him.
The Sky Sports pundit wrote: "Hey @rioferdy5 when you're boxing does Vidic come in and take the punches whilst you cover round the back with me?"
Ferdinand responded by saying: "Vida did take some hits for us. He might have to come in my corner! Some1 that can take bit responsibility... will leave you out @GNev2."
The centre-back retired from football in 2015.
