France's Alexis Vastine has overcome Tuvshinbat Byamba of Mongolia in the Olympic welterweight competition.
The fight started in scrappy fashion, with neither fighter able to settle into any sort of a rhythem, which was reflected in the judges' 3-3 scoring.
Vastine took the upper hand in the second round as he improved on his accuracy, landing a with a few decent scoring shots.
The Frenchman had opened up a three-point lead after two rounds, but had to withstand pressure from the Mongolian in the final round.
However, Vastine managed to evade his opponent well and booked his place in the quarter-finals with a 13-12 victory.
