Saul Alvarez: 'Gennady Golovkin should be worried about me'

Saul Alvarez says that unified world middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin should be worried about a potential showdown between the two in 2017.

Saul Alvarez has insisted that the team of Gennady Golovkin "need to make something happen" if two of the world's pound-for-pound stars are to meet in 2017.

Earlier this year, Alvarez vacated the WBC middleweight title after Golovkin was made mandatory challenger for the belt, but despite the move scuppering the fight until next year, the Mexican claims that he is ready to take on the hard-punching Kazakh.

The 26-year-old is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying: "Any day, any time. When the negotiations are done and the fight is done, I will be ready. They need to worry about it, not me. I'm not worried at all about going to 160lb. I'm a strong fighter, I'm a fighter who can adapt to my surroundings.

"I can't tell you now what I will be like at 160 as I don't know yet. We will see in a couple more fights in how I feel and look. We will see what comes.

"I will say this one more time. They need to worry. They need to make something happen."

On Saturday night Canelo will attempt to win the WBO super-welterweight crown against current champion Liam Smith, while Golovkin successfully defended his middleweight belts against Kell Brook last weekend.
