Saul Alvarez will defend his super-middleweight world titles against long-time rival Gennady Golovkin in a trilogy fight on September 17.

The pair have already met on two occasions, Canelo being fortunate to earn a draw in the first instalment in September 2017 before prevailing by majority decision a year later.

Despite agreeing to fight each other for a third time before their respective recent fights, another showdown was put in significant doubt when Canelo suffered defeat to WBA light-heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol.

However, rather than take the rematch with the Russian, which will take place at a later date, the Mexican will renew his rivalry with Golovkin.

The Ring, IBF, WBA, WBC and WBO belts at 168lbs will be on the line, Kazakh fighter Golovkin having the opportunity to become a two-weight world champion while he currently holds the WBA middleweight crown.

A venue for the fight is yet to be confirmed, but Las Vegas is currently regarded as the clear frontrunner. body check tags ::
