Former heavyweight champion of the world Michael Dokes has died at the age of 54.
Dokes, who claimed the WBA title in 1982 with a controversial technical-knockout win over Mike Weaver, passed away on Saturday at a hospice in Akron, Ohio.
His brother, Kevin, has said that the death was caused by liver cancer.
In the late '90s Dokes was sentenced to 10 years in prison after admitting to charges of attempted murder, second-degree kidnapping and intent to commit sexual assault against his girlfriend.
Dokes's funeral will take place on Saturday, August 18.
