Carl Froch not out to save British boxing

Carl Froch says that the current state of British boxing is not of importance to him as he prepares to take on Andre Ward in the ring tomorrow.

Carl Froch has insisted that he is fully focused on his personal challenge against Andre Ward, and is not concentrating on reviving hope in British boxing.

It has been a disappointing month for Brits following Amir Khan's controversial defeat to Lamont Peterson and John Murray relinquishing his WBA lightweight bout with Brandon Rios.

"There tends to be a little bit of an emphasis and pressure on me restoring the pride in British boxing but that's all part and parcel of it," said Froch. "I'm the last man standing in this tournament and I suppose I'm the last man standing this year in terms of fighting overseas.

"I'm not looking at what everyone else has done wrong and how they've all lost or thinking I can steal the limelight because of what Murray's done or what Amir Khan did at the weekend.

"I'm just concentrating on what I'm doing. None of that matters to me. It's a shame for British boxing that all these other fighters have lost but it's an individual sport."

The 34-year-old could lose his WBC super-middleweight title to unbeaten American Ward when they face off in Atlantic City tomorrow.
