A Las Vegas showdown between Carl Froch and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr has been ruled out after the Mexican's surprise defeat to Andrzej Fonfara on Saturday night.
Earlier this year, an elbow injury forced Froch out of a scheduled bout with Chavez Jr, but it had been hoped that the fight could be rearranged for later in 2015.
However, promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed on Twitter that a potential encounter is off the table after Chavez Jr suffered the second setback of his career against Fonfara, who dropped the former world champion in the ninth round.
A rematch with unbeaten Andre Ward could potentially be made for the autumn, while a domestic showdown with James DeGale is still a possibility for Froch providing that the Olympic gold medallist can defeat Andre Dirrell on May 23.
