George Groves: 'Carl Froch should give me a rematch or retire'

George Groves claims that Carl Froch's credibility as a champion would be tainted unless he grants him a rematch to their dramatic super-middlewight title bout.

George Groves has claimed that Carl Froch's legacy would be tarnished if he did not offer him a rematch of their controversial super-middleweight classic.

Froch hung on to his IBF and WBA titles courtesy of Howard Foster's contentious ninth-round stoppage of a bout that Groves had largely dominated in Manchester.

The 26-year-old is still incensed with the decision having had several days to look back at video replays, and has said that Froch's credibility will be questioned if he does not grant him another shot.

"At the time I was sickened and gutted, but now I've watched the footage I'm a little angry," Groves told Sky Sports News.

"It's a shocking decision from the referee. I'm actually quite angry about it. Froch has to give me a rematch or retire. That's his only option.

"There's no other fight out there for Carl that anyone would be interested in. His credibility will be shot if he tried to take on anyone else but me."

Froch, 36, has suggested that he would be willing to give Hammersmith-brawler Groves a rematch, but has admitted that it is up to Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn to organise a return fight.
