Eddie Hearn: 'Carl Froch rates George Groves as easiest opponent'

Eddie Hearn says that Carl Froch accepted a rematch with Carl Groves because the 25-year-old "is potentially the easiest" opponent for him.

Promoter Eddie Hearn has claimed that Carl Froch agreed to a rematch with George Groves because he "is potentially the easiest fight out there for him".

The two fought in Manchester back in November when Froch defended his IBF and WBA super middleweight titles courtesy of a ninth-round stoppage. However, almost immediately a second meeting was mooted, with many believing that the referee should not have stopped the bout.

After a series of discussions, it was agreed last week that the duo would get into the ring again in May.

Reflecting on the news, Hearn has revealed that Froch could have taken on either Gennady Golovkin or Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, but 'The Cobra' opted for Groves because he believes that he has a better chance of defeating the 25-year-old, as well as the financial incentive.

"I'm a promoter who knows you have to make that fight to move British boxing forwards," Boxingnewsonline quotes Hearn as saying. "If you work hard enough at it you can get it made,. You can get tired of fights not happening.

"There were times when I thought it might not happen. Golvkin came into the mix late on, but Froch doesn't vacate belts. Carl believes George is potentially the easiest fight out there for him and for the most money. There was Chavez bout in America, Golovkin, or Groves."

The venue for the fight has not yet been confirmed, although it is expected to be held in either Manchester or London.
