British heavyweight Anthony Joshua has insisted that he will compete twice in April only if he has fully recovered from a stress fracture in his back.

Joshua is scheduled to feature in Newcastle on April 4 before facing Kevin Johnson three weeks later, but the Olympic gold medallist has revealed that he doesn't intend to rush back after the problem that has sidelined him since the start of 2015.

The 25-year-old told Sky Sports News: "My coaches and physios are gauging it. We've got April 25 but there's so many shows so if we don't go to Newcastle, we've got London. If I can do, I'll do both in one month.

"It was a serious injury so I took some time out. I'm managing it properly now so I'm back in the gym. We're not going overboard because we don't want it to happen again but we're managing it.

"I'm happy to be back punching and trying to plan seven weeks ahead, but we'll see how things go."

Joshua has won his first 10 fights as a professional, all by stoppage inside three rounds.
