Amir Khan insists that new trainer Virgil Hunter will help him make defensive improvements that will launch the Bolton boxer back into world-title contention.

Amir Khan has admitted that the first thing he wants to work on with new trainer Virgil Hunter is an improvement in his defensive skills.

Unbeaten Carlos Molina will face Khan in Los Angeles on December 15, as he bids to bounce back from a devastating knockout defeat to Danny Garcia earlier this year

Khan recently decided to leave trainer Freddie Roach to link up with Hunter, and he believes that the long-time trainer of super-middleweight king Andre Ward can help him improve as a fighter.

The Bolton boxer told BBC Sport: "I'm an offensive fighter and I need my trainer to teach me about defence. Virgil made it clear he is going to be with me 100%.

"We have changed a lot of stuff for this upcoming fight, first of all the trainer which I think is a massive part of the camp.

"What Virgil wants me to do is go back to the boxing again but be a smart boxer and understand what I have to do."

Khan has vowed to focus on becoming a light-welterweight world champion for the third time in 2013 after getting past Molina in December.
