Amir Khan eyes welterweight division

Amir Khan says that he is likely to make the move from light-welterweight to welterweight after his title defence against Lamont Peterson tonight.

Bolton boxer Amir Khan has admitted that he will probably move up from the light-welterweight division to welterweight in the near future.

The 25-year-old defends his WBA and IBF titles against Lamont Peterson in Washington tonight in what could be his last fight in the 10st division.

Khan wants to unify the light-welterweight belts but has been unable to secure bouts with WBO title holder Erik Morales or WBC champion Timothy Bradley.

"I'll probably move up to welterweight in my next fight because there's nobody out there I can face at light-welter," Khan said.

"There are big names in the welterweight division and I can work my way towards those big super-fights against the likes of Floyd Mayweather and also Shane Mosley, who is in that division and I could probably face."

Khan has a professional record of 26 wins, 18 by way of knockout and 1 loss.
