Andy Lee: 'Peter Quillin draw was a fair result'

WBO middleweight champion Andy Lee believes that his draw against Peter Quillin in New York was a "fair result".

Andy Lee has revealed that the referee acknowledged that he was wrong to award a knockdown for Peter Quillin during their bout in New York on Saturday night.

Lee, the WBO middleweight champion, hit the canvas twice during the opening three rounds in a contest that was ruled a draw, but despite acknowledging that the result was "fair", the Irishman was left ruing a mistake from the official during the early stages.

The 30-year-old told RTE: "It was a fair result in the end. He scored good knockdowns early on. I boxed my way back into it and I was stronger and more consistent going down the stretch. That's what's important in those 12-round fights.

"In his last knockdown, he stood on my toe and the referee acknowledged that after the fight and said it was a mistake. I know that decisions are made in a split second but overall, I think it was a fair result."

Lee is now expected to face mandatory challenger Billy Joe Saunders in a stadium fight in either Dublin or London during the summer.
