Jamie McDonnell aiming for big fights in 2016

WBA bantamweight champion Jamie McDonnell admits that he is targeting a number of big fights in either his current weight division or at super-bantamweight.

British bantamweight Jamie McDonnell has revealed that he is prepared to move up a division in order to secure a high-profile fight.

McDonnell, the WBA champion, is currently preparing for his rematch with Tomoki Kameda, whom he edged out in May, but the Doncaster fighter has admitted that he has his eyes on a domestic showdown with either Scott Quigg or Carl Frampton in 2016.

The 29-year-old told Sky Sports News: "I'm going to beat Kameda and wouldn't mind fighting a super-champion, but if there are no big fights or big paydays left at bantamweight, I'll just move up to tackle the super-bantamweights.

"I'm big for bantamweight but there's still a couple more fights left in me. I know I need big fights, big names and if I beat Kamada, I want to stay fighting in America, under the Al Haymon banner and hopefully he'll chuck me in with some of his other guys.

"I'd fight any of them. Rigondeaux and all of them. I'll fight Quigg or Frampton. Scott was impressive and Quigg looked impressive but I thought Frampton would've nicked it between them but after the last performances, I think Quigg comes out on top now."

McDonnell is a two-time world champion at bantamweight, first winning the IBF title in May 2013 before claiming the WBA strap 12 months later.
