British super-bantamweight Gavin McDonnell admits that he is eyeing a future fight with either Scott Quigg or Carl Frampton.

British super-bantamweight Gavin McDonnell has said that he is not "a million miles away" from a world title opportunity.

Last weekend, McDonnell extended his unbeaten record to 16 fights after successfully defending his European crown against Jeremy Parodi, with the victory helping his position in the world rankings.

The Doncaster fighter is now in contention to compete in an eliminator for the world title, and he has admitted that he has eyes on a future showdown with either Scott Quigg or Carl Frampton, who hold the WBA regular and IBF crowns.

The 29-year-old told World Boxing News: "I've only had 16 fights and I'm European champion, so I don't want to rush my career and I want to be ready for when those big fights come.

"It looks like the [Quigg-Frampton] fight might be announced for February and it would be great to get on the undercard. Hopefully, Matchroom can stick me on and it might get a bit of interest going for a future fight.

"I'm not a million miles away, so if I can come in with another improved performance, people won't see me as too far off."

McDonnell's brother, Jamie, currently holds the WBA bantamweight title.
