Despite recently hinting that he will return to boxing, Oscar De La Hoya reveals that he will not be coming out of retirement.

Six-weight world champion Oscar De La Hoya has "decided to stay retired".

The 42-year-old American has not fought since his defeat in the eighth round to Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in 2008, but he recently admitted that he had considered a return to the ring.

However, having spoken with his family, the Olympic gold medalist has revealed that he will instead continue to concentrate on his work with Golden Boy Promotions.

"As a professional athlete and someone who has spent almost his entire life in boxing, not a day goes by when I don't think about coming back," he wrote on his official Facebook page.

"But I am retired, and after speaking to my family and following a great deal of introspection, I have decided to stay retired.

"To the many thousands of fans who over the last couple of weeks encouraged me to come out of retirement and fight again, I thank you. You can rest assured that I will spend the rest of my days around this wonderful sport, even though those days won't be spent inside the ropes."

Of his 45 bouts, De La Hoya was victorious on 39 occasions.
