Sam Eggington stopped Birmingham rival Frankie Gavin in the eighth round in a thrilling fight at the Barclaycard Arena on Saturday evening.
The WBC International title bout was given the go-ahead despite Gavin failing to make the weight limit, but it was Eggington who came out on top after knocking down his opponent twice.
A cagey start was followed by Eggington finding his rhythm as he floored his rival with a short right hook in the third round, though a trade of punches ensued as Gavin looked to recover from his knockdown.
It was Gavin who began to take control of things in the fourth and fifth, but Eggington soon hit back with a flurry of hooks and he had Funtime on the ropes.
The referee was forced to step in, deeming that the ropes were keeping Gavin upright, counting to eight once more and paving the way for one final showdown in the Birmingham bout.
Eggington gave a final flurry of blows in the eighth which proved to be enough, as the referee stepped in and called time for the 23-year-old to secure the WBC International title.
