Team GB boxer Luke McCormack has revealed that he was pleased to start his 2015 European Games with a comfortable victory over Panagiotis Matsagkos.
The 20-year-old produced a strong performance to overcome the Greek, who struggled to make an impression during their bout in Baku.
"Not really, we might be Team GB, but I have come for myself," McCormack told Sports Mole when asked whether he felt the pressure to win after teammates Muhammad Ali and Qais Ashfaq both recorded victories on the first two days.
McCormack also revealed that he 'always felt in control' of the bout, before commenting on the Athletes' Village at his first senior multi-sport tournament.
"Yeah a little bit. I obviously didn't want to switch off though in case he got on top of me and managed to find another gear, but I always felt in control.
"This is my first big tournament so if I can do well that I will be over the moon. The Athletes' Village has been great, all this is new to me but I am really enjoying it."
McCormack will fight Frenchman Sofiane Oumiha in the next round on Saturday.
