Team GB bantamweight boxer Qais Ashfaq has booked a place in the quarter-finals of the European Games by edging out Selcuk Eker in Baku this afternoon.
The 22-year-old, who kicked off his Baku campaign with a straightforward win over Georgian Giorgi Gogatishvili earlier this week, came out on top 2-1 at Crystal Hall.
Ashfaq took the first two rounds 29-28, although the judges felt that his Turkish opponent edged the final round 30-27.
It mattered little in the end, however, as the 2014 Commonwealth Games silver medallist outscored Eker to move into the final eight where he will face Omar El-Hag of Germany.
There has otherwise been mixed success for Great Britain's boxers so far today, as Harvey Horn and Savannah Marshall both tasted disappointing defeats, although Nicola Adams and now Ashfaq have kept their Baku medal hopes alive.
