Great Britain's Nicola Adams has said that it is a "dream come true" after she became the first women's Olympic boxing champion.
The 29-year-old defeated five-time world champion Ren Cancan of China on Thursday afternoon to create Olympic history.
"It's like a dream come true for me. I've just wanted this all my life," she told BBC Sport. "To think I've finally done it with all this support, it's made my day.
"I'd like to thank all the supporters here and all the support back home - I'm bringing that gold medal back to Leeds!"
Katie Taylor clinched Ireland's first gold of the Games in the very next bout with her victory over Russia's Sofya Ochigava in the final of the women's lightweight division.
