Team GB super-heavyweight Joe Joyce has booked his spot in the quarter-finals of the 2015 World Championships after beating Morocco's Mohammed Arjaoui on points (3-0) in Doha.
Joyce, who won gold at the European Games in Baku earlier this summer, was seeded third for the championships and is among the favourites to claim a qualifying spot for the Olympics in 2016.
The Brit caught Arjaoui with some powerful shots in the early stages of the contest and that was the pattern as the round progressed, with all three of the judges' scorecards showing 10-9 to Joyce.
The two powerful men continued to engage in the second round, but it was Joyce that consistently landed the cleaner punches, with Arjaoui struggling against his fitter opponent. As expected, the second also went to Joyce, who led 20-18 on all of the cards ahead of the final round.
Both boxers gave it everything in what was a fierce final round, but Joyce's class told as he advanced into the final eight with a 3-0 points victory.
Joyce will take on Turkey's Ali Demirezen in the quarter-finals on Saturday.
