England fast bowler Stuart Broad describes winning the Ashes outright as "amazing" after he took six wickets in the evening session.

England fast bowler Stuart Broad has described winning the Ashes as "amazing" following his side's 74-run victory over Australia this evening.

A dramatic day at Chester-le-Street saw England take an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series with just one Test to play as the hosts ripped through Australia's lower order in the evening session.

Tim Bresnan added 45 runs to England's overnight total as they were eventually bowled out for 334, setting the Aussies a target of 299 to win. They began well with an opening partnership of 109, but Broad took six wickets to help England secure victory with a day to spare.

"It's amazing. It was a really interesting day's cricket. We knew we had to fight hard this morning. The ball was spitting off a length with the new ball. Tim Bresnan's runs were vital were vital for us. Australia were fantastic in that middle period. They gave us nothing," Broad told Sky Sports News.

"We had to regroup at tea. There were lots of conversations about how we could get Australia on the front foot a little bit, bowling a bit fuller, and how we could get the ball moving sideways. Once that happened we executed our plans fantastically. The atmosphere here kept us going.

"I found a nice rhythm and had the wind taking the ball away from the right-hander. I just wanted to be really aggressive. I think we lacked a bit of intensity. Cooky (captain Alastair Cook) threw me the ball and said 'let's spice it up a bit'. Bresy and I had a good partnership and hit the wicket as hard as we could. It worked for us. 'In' batsmen scored well on the wicket but it was very hard to start. So once we got a wicket we could put huge pressure on the new Aussie batsman."

The fifth and final Ashes Test will take place at the Oval, starting on August 21.
