Australia have quickly eased fears about Michael Clarke's ankle injury after a brief scare during training on Monday ahead of the second Ashes Test.

The captain appeared to have hurt his left ankle and was limping while carrying out some fielding drills at the Adelaide Oval and repeatedly flexed the ankle, but managed to carry on and complete a nets session.

The incident prompted a response from several players, while Cricket Australia tweeted: "He has since completed a nets session and is OK."

"He's okay. He looked like he batted pretty well in the nets," batsman Steve Smith said after training.

"I think he's good to go. He was in there doing all his normal recovery so I think he's okay."

George Bailey has admitted that he wasn't even aware of Clarke's problem, saying: "I didn't even know he had done anything, I saw him batting and he looked good there, so I guess he's fine."

The second Test gets underway at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday with Australia holding a 1-0 lead.
