Darren Lehmann: 'Chris Rogers vital to Australia hopes'

Australia coach Darren Lehmann claims that Chris Rogers is "alright" after retiring in Sunday's second Test through dizziness.

Australia coach Darren Lehmann has admitted that losing Chris Rogers would be a big blow to his side's hopes of winning The Ashes.

The 37-year-old has hit a rich streak of form of late, scoring 95, 173 and 49 retired hurt to lead the Aussies' charge.

A spell of dizziness, which forced Rogers off early in the second Test, could now potentially keep him out of action for a prolonged period of time.

However, Lehman remains hopeful that the English specialist can make a swift return in time for the next Test on July 29.

"He's alright, we'll just have to wait and see what the medical staff come up with," he is quoted as saying by The Telegraph. "He's important for a period of time.

"He knows these conditions so well. He loves England and he helps our batters out, that's the most pleasing thing. He helps our batters and bowlers about conditions, for example at Lord's with all the angles you've got to lay and the slope."

Rogers recently revealed that he plans to retire from international cricket at the end of the ongoing Ashes series.
