Chris Rodgers backs David Warner's Ashes impact

Chris Rodgers says that David Warner can make an impact in the Ashes should Australia recall him for the third Test on Thursday.

Australia opener Chris Rodgers has backed fellow batsman David Warner to have a "destructive" impact should he be picked for the third Ashes Test against England.

The 26-year-old missed the opening two meetings of the series against the Three Lions after being suspended for punching Joe Root in a Birmingham nightclub, and was sent out to South Africa with Australia 'A' in order to practice.

Coach Darren Lehmann has hinted that Warner could be recalled for the Old Trafford Test after scoring 193 runs last week, and Rodgers feels that he could make a difference should he be given the nod.

"David brings a lot of energy to the group," Rodgers told Sky Sports News. "He's just one of the guys who goes 100mph. It's fantastic to see him get runs.

"He's such a destructive player - if he bats for a while he can put some real pressure on England. If he plays, then hopefully he does well and helps us win this next Test.

"He's one of those players - the opposition know they have to get him out quickly. If he bats for a while he can take the game away like an Adam Gilchrist used to do."

The third Test takes place at Old Trafford from Thursday.
