Chris Rogers hails 'ultimate day for Australia'

Batsman Chris Rogers admits that day three of the third Ashes Test in Perth, which ended with Australia leading by 369 runs, could not have gone any better for the hosts.

Chris Rogers has admitted that Australia could not have asked to be in better position after their day-three performance put them within touching distance of regaining the Ashes in the third Test at The WACA.

The hosts took the final six English wickets for just 71 runs in the morning session to bowl the tourists out for 251 and then produced the goods with the bat again to establish a 369-run lead at the close.

Rogers brought up his second half-century of the series by scoring 54 in a supporting role to opening partner David Warner, who smashed 112 as the Aussies effectively put the game beyond England.

"There's a long way to go," Rogers told reporters. "We'll bat for a while tomorrow, maybe until after lunch, then attack England hard.

"The cracks are widening, so it's going to be hard to bat in the second innings for England. I haven't seen cracks like this at The WACA for a while.

"If you'd have asked 'what is the ultimate day to have?' we'd have been in this position. After the tour of England, a lot of us were hurting, so to come back and win 3-0 would be amazing."

Victory in Perth will see Australia, who have not won the Ashes since the 2006-07 series Down Under, open up an unassailable 3-0 series lead against the current holders of the urn.
