Michael Vaughan slams umpire decision

Michael Vaughan says that Australia should have been allowed to carry on batting on day four of the third Ashes Test.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan is adamant that the umpires should have allowed play to carry on during the third Test of the Ashes if Australia were willing to persevere through the bad light.

The Baggy Greens currently lead the match by 331 runs but are expected to declare on 172-7 overnight after Sunday's play was disrupted by the rain, which could result in the hosts snatching a draw.

A draw would be enough for England to retain the Ashes, and Vaughan believes that Australia should have been given the chance to continue batting in order to prevent this.

"England wouldn't have wanted to bat against the new ball, but if Australia were willing to face Broad and Anderson in that light, they should have been allowed to," Vaughan told BBC Sport. "Cricket doesn't do itself any favours at times like that."

England currently lead the series 2-0.
