Michael Clarke dedicates Australia's World Cup win to former teammate Phillip Hughes, who died last November.

Retiring one-day international captain Michael Clarke has dedicated Australia's World Cup triumph to the late Phillip Hughes.

Batsman Hughes lost his life in November when he suffered a serious head injury after being struck by a bouncer during a Sheffield Shield game in Sydney.

Speaking at the conclusion of his side's seven-wicket win over fellow co-hosts New Zealand in the final earlier today, Clarke insisted that the entire team will "celebrate hard" in memory of their former teammate.

"It's been a really tough few months. I'm sure everybody standing on this stage will say we played this World Cup with 16 players," he said.

"This victory is dedicated to our little brother Phillip Hughes. Hughesy used to party as good as any of them so I guarantee we'll celebrate hard tonight."

The Aussies have now won the competition on a record five occasions.
