Australia paceman Mitchell Johnson becomes just the second man to be named ICC cricketer of the year twice and is also named Test cricketer of the year by the ICC.

Australia paceman Mitchell Johnson has been named both the cricketer of the year and Test cricketer of the year by the International Cricket Council.

The left-arm bowler beat off competition from Kumar Sangakkara, Angelo Mathews and AB de Villiers to become just the second person - after compatriot Ricky Ponting - to win the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy twice.

Johnson headed Australia's Ashes destruction of England last winter with 37 wickets at an average of 13.97 and also claimed 22 scalps at 17.36 in the Test series in South Africa in the summer.

"I'm very happy with where I am at the moment and I want to keep getting better as a cricketer," he told reporters. "This is something that I'll be able to look back on in time when my career is over and be exceptionally proud of."

Gary Ballance won the emerging cricketer of the year prize, while England's Sarah Taylor secured the women's ODI cricketer of the year and Katherine Brunt was honoured with the ICC spirit of cricket award.
