South Africa bowled out before tea

South Africa trail Australia by 162 runs after being bowled out for 388 just before tea in Adelaide.

Australia have bowled out South Africa for 388 just before the tea interval of the second Test match in Adelaide.

South Africa had lost five wickets for just 56 runs during the morning session to put them firmly on the back foot, but half-centuries from Faf Du Plessis and Jacques Kallis just about kept the tourists in contention.

A superb bowling performance from Australia had threatened South Africa with the follow-on, but the 93-run partnership between Du Plessis and Kallis eased those fears.

The 58-run innings from Kallis was particularly impressive as he was nursing an hamstring injury, but he was finally dismissed by Michael Clarke with the score on 343.

Soon after, Morne Morkel fell to the bowling of Nathan Lyon, but Du Plessis still had time to muster a late flurry of runs to take the score to 388 before he was caught by Clarke off the bowling of Ben Hilfenhaus for 78.
