Australia produce a balanced run chase in Brisbane to open up a 2-0 lead in the one-day international series against India.

Australia have opened up a 2-0 lead in the one-day international series against India thanks to a second-straight record run chase.

The hosts made the biggest-ever chase in Perth to win the first ODI earlier this week and again today they set a ground record by reaching the target of 309 with an over to spare in Brisbane.

India won the toss, choosing to bat, and once again Rohit Sharma led from the front with a knock of 124 after his unbeaten 171 in the first match.

Virat Kohli (59) and Ajinkya Rahane (89) also added hefty totals as India posted 308-8 from their 50 overs, with three of the wickets run-outs and James Faulkner the top wicket-taker with two for 64.

Australia started their reply with an opening-wicket partnership of 145 from Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh, who both scored 71 before falling to the bowling of Ravindra Jadeja and Ishant Sharma respectively.

Steven Smith (46), George Bailey (76*) and Glenn Maxwell (26*) all then scored quickly to ensure that Australia reached their target with an over to spare.

Australia can open up an unassailable 3-0 lead if they win the third ODI in Melbourne on Sunday.
