A partnership of 122 runs between Steven Smith and Mitchell Marsh has helped Australia to a six-wicket victory over West Indies.

Australia found themselves on the back foot after West Indies had made 282-8 during their 50 overs at the Kensington Oval with Marlon Samuels hitting 125 from 134 deliveries.

Denesh Ramdin also weighed in with 91 to post what was considered a solid target, and they would have fancied their chances of victory after reducing Australia to 35-2 by removing both opening batsmen.

However, Smith's patient knock of 78 was followed by an unbeaten innings of 79 runs from 85 balls from Marsh and they both contributed to the game being taken away from West Indies.

Glenn Maxwell proved the difference maker in the closing overs, striking 46 off 31 balls to claim what turned out to be a relatively comfortable win.

Australia could play West Indies again in next week's final providing that the hosts beat South Africa in their remaining game.
