Australia have overhauled West Indies' first-innings total of 148 to lead by five runs at lunch on day two of the first Test in Dominica.

The tourists head into the break on 153-6 after what proved a productive first session for West Indies.

Michael Clarke's side finished day one on 85-3 and 63 runs short of a modest target that Shai Hope, with a haul of 36, contributed the most to.

Steven Smith and Adam Voges resumed at the crease but the former could only add eight more runs before being removed by Devendra Bishoo for 25, while Voges remains in play with 45.

Bishoo, whose first wicket of the Test was captain Clarke yesterday, then dismissed Shane Watson (11) and Brad Haddin (8) as Australia continued to labour.

Mitchell Johnson joined Voges at the crease and registered 14 before the break.
