Australia are in control of the day-night Test match with New Zealand after taking five second-innings wickets with their opponents' lead standing at just 94 runs.

Australia have taken control of the inaugural day-night Test match with New Zealand after taking five wickets late on Saturday.

Day two began with Australia on 54-2 after bowling New Zealand out for 202, but it was the tourists who looked like seizing the advantage after reducing their hosts to 116-8.

Only Steven Smith posted a half-century as his teammates fell around him, but a resolute 66 from Peter Nevill got Australia back in business, while Nathan Lyon (34) and Mitchell Starc (24) got their team's total up to 224 before they were bowled out.

New Zealand regained the lead without losing a wicket, but once Tom Latham fell for 10, Australia struck at regular intervals with Ross Taylor currently possessing the top score for New Zealand with 32.

The Black Caps will return on Sunday with a 94-run lead, but they need Mitchell Santner (13*) and BJ Watling (7*) to hang around during the first session to give them realistic hope of victory.
