Steven Smith has kept Australia ticking on day five of the second Test against Pakistan by edging closer to a century.
The 25-year-old led his nation's recovery this morning in Abu Dhabi with Australia needing to reach 460 runs with six wickets remaining in order to get something from this contest.
Pakistan have dominated the Test, but their bowlers were frustrated in the early session of the day as Smith and Mitchell Marsh took the Aussies over the 200-run mark.
Pakistan, who lead the series 1-0, eventually found the breakthrough with Mohammed Hafeez, who sent Marsh packing just three runs shy of a half century on 47.
Despite the blow, Smith continued to lead the way and reached lunch unscathed on 97, while Brad Haddin is 13 not out.
Australia are 238-5 and trail Pakistan by 365 runs.
